RedFox-aircraft-External-8 - Time sync Ethernet switch

Time sync
The RedFox-aircraft-External-8 switch series has PTP Transparent Clock (TC), version 1 and 2 support.

Network redundancy

The RedFox-aircraft-External-8 switch series supports network redundancy based on Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol (RSTP) or the Fast Re-configuration of Networks Topology (FRNT) protocol. The FRNT concept of OnTime offers robust and ultra fast re-configuration of the network topology. The FRNT concept eliminates failures caused by network links and/or switches. A redundant ring topology is an excellent choice when high availability and fast re-configuring of the network topology are a required. FRNT recovery time is as fast as 30ms.

Multicast filtering

High multicast load is handled by the IGMP snooping feature of the RedFox-aircraft-External-8 switch series.  IGMP version 1, 2 and 3 are supported.  The bulk join property of IGMP version 3 reduced the IGMP control packet load significantly.  Thus, up to 500 multicast groups can be handled by the RedFox-aircraft-External-8 switch series.

Switch management

Management of the RedFox-aircraft-External-8 switches is easy and is done by the user in the Windows based IP Configuration tool from OnTime or via SNMP. The IP configuration tool is free and any of the Ethernet ports can be used for this purpose. Thus, no serial port is required for setting the configuration parameter on the RedFox-aircraft-External-8 switches.

Quality of service

Excellent real time properties are offered through both layer 2 and layer 3 priority support, where high priority packets are served based on strict priority scheduling.  Layer 2 priority is achieved based on the principles defined in IEEE802.1p either based on tag insertion performed by the switch according to used defined VLAN settings (port based VLAN) or on tagged packets generated by the Ethernet end nodes. Layer 3 is based on pre-defined IP ToS settings.

Ports and connectors

Each of the switches in the RedFox-aircraft-External-8 series contain 6 x 10/100BASE-TX copper ports with Mighty Mouse connectors and 2 x 100BASE-FX multimode fiber ports of 38999 type.

Environmental requirement

The RedFox-aircraft-External-8 switch series complies to RTCA DO-160E - "Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment" and D6-16050-5 Rev B - "Electromagnetic Interference Control Requirements for composite Airplanes".  This includes:
 - Temperature range = [-55 .. +85]C°
 - Altitude: 50.000ft
 - Vibration:
     - Shock: 6g
     - Crash safety: 20g
     - Random vibration: 7.94Grms
 - Ingress Protection: IP65, where the following fluids are tested:
    - Jet fuel
    - Hydraulic & anti-icing fluid
    - Lubrication oil

 - Power: 24VDC with reverse polarity protection
 - ESD: +/- 15KV
 - Lightning: 1000V/3000A
